John Stuart Mill (20 May 1806 - 7 May 1873) was an English philosopher and economist. A student of Jeremy Bentham, Mill promoted the ideas of utilitarianismand liberalism and has been called “the most influential English language philosopher of the nineteenth century”. His most influential works include his books Utilitarianism(1863) (1863) and On Liberty (1859).
