A conference can be really valuable, or it can pass in a blur of talks and small talk. Preparing beforehand can help with both feeling at ease during the event and getting a lot out of it. Together we'll work on:

• What you want from the conference. Are you exploring career options, looking for collaborators, trying to understand a cause area, or deciding on a next step?
• Who you should talk to. Many attendees find that the most valuable part of an EAGx is the 1-on-1s. These are short meetings you arrange with other attendees through the conference app. We'll think through which kinds of people would help with your goals and how to find them.
• What you'd ask them. Good questions make good conversations. You'll leave with a short list of questions you actually want answered.
• Staying on top of it. A conference can be a lot, and while some enjoy back-to-back conversations, others value having enough time to think everything through. We’ll spend some time on how we plan to approach the conference and how to pace ourselves over the weekend.

First EAGx? This is a relaxed way to find out what to expect and to arrive with a plan.

Been to a few already? Come too. Quite a few of us know we should prepare properly and then end up booking 1-on-1s much later than we planned to. Take this as an evening set aside to think a bit deeper about your approach, with other people around to keep you on track. Newcomers will also be glad to hear what worked for you at earlier conferences.

1-on-1 booking and the full programme probably won't be open yet, which makes this a good time to get clear on your goals. Once the attendee list goes live, you'll know what to look for.

Bring a laptop or notebook. If this is your first EAGx and you have your conference application handy, bring that too, since it's a good place to start.
