Presentation and discussion on: Ethical views that prioritize the reduction of suffering
What do we owe each other? What ought to be our moral priority? Is it increasing pleasure/ happiness, reducing pain, or something else entirely? How does happiness and suffering relate to each other, are they opposites, are they symmetrical? Can someone's pleasure make up for someone else's pain?
The presentation given by Ada from the Center for Reducing Suffering will be guided by these and other similar questions. We will discuss various approaches to suffering-focused ethics (SFE), their key ideas, and common misconceptions surrounding them. After the presentation, we’ll open the floor for discussion and leave time for socializing.
Vegan snacks will be available:)
