I want to become a biorisk researcher, and I currently believe that a formation in biotechnology is a good path. I could either start in this field right away, as a bachelor, or I could first do a bachelor in Biological Sciences and then do a post-graduation in biotechnology.

However, I can not start a bachelor in biotechnology in this year, because there is no institution that offers this course on distance in my country (Brazil), the very few private institutions that offer it are prohibitively expensive, and I would need spend at least one year preparing to enter in a public one. However, there are plenty of very affordable options for a Biological Sciences one.

So, would entering the field of biotechnology as a graduation offer benefits over doing a graduation in Biological Sciences first? If yes, would these benefits be great enough to justify delaying my graduation for a year?
