We’re looking for a reliable, skilled, and proactive Social Media Manager to join the volunteer team powering the World Climate Relay—a new global movement aiming to raise $100,000 for the Giving Green Fund and engage participants from 50+ countries in our first year.

Commitment: ~ 5 hours per week (more from 5–12 June 2026)
Deadline: Get in touch with us by 10th December. Starting around 5th January (Flexible)
Contact: Jennifer (co-founder of World Climate Relay) at info@worldclimaterelay.org

Important: We welcome applicants who haven’t formally managed a social media platform before. Experience is valued, but commitment and reliability matter most. If you have other skills you would like to lend to our project, please also get in touch.

Overview

As far as we know, this is the first global EA fundraiser for the climate. We aim to use our platform to raise significant funds for effective climate charities, while also bringing the ideas of effective giving to a completely new audience.

You’ll be a tight-knit team of nine experienced volunteer professionals, specialists in fundraising, events, marketing, design, and business. You’ll have full support from our graphic designer and founding team—we collaborate closely, share workload, and provide clear direction and resources. While we do value autonomy (we each have our own areas of responsibility), you’ll never be left to figure things out on your own.

A Note About The Team & Expectations

This is our first year, and while we don’t yet have funding to pay staff, we are building something ambitious: our goal is to grow the World Climate Relay into a global, annual movement capable of raising tens of millions for high-impact climate solutions.

Every member of the team, including the founders, contributes their expertise on a volunteer basis alongside full-time jobs. We treat this project professionally, and we value people who are reliable, skilled, and committed. For that reason, we set high standards even though the role is unpaid: we want someone who takes ownership, communicates well, and delivers what they commit to, just as the rest of the team does.

What you get in return is the chance to make a meaningful climate impact, be part of a motivated and fun team, and bring EA ideas to a broad audience.

Why We’re Confident of Success

  • Influencer athletes and key outdoor brands are already on board as ambassadors.
  • Our volunteer team has extensive networks in the climate, outdoor, and effective giving communities.
  • We have proven experience in launching impactful, global campaigns.
    • Our co-founder, Jennifer completed the Ambitious Impact (previously known as Charity Entrepreneurship) program in 2024, then co-founded Mieux Donner, the French equivalent of Giving What We Can. Since July 2024, Mieux Donner has raised €510,845 for effective charities.
    • Our co-founder Robbie is also the founder of an outdoor events company and has raised in excess of £3.5 million through active, outdoor, charity fundraising events

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, create, and schedule content across our social channels
  • Work closely with our graphic designer to produce compelling visuals
  • Maintain a consistent tone and visual identity
  • Build excitement and grow engagement leading up to the World Climate Relay
  • Collaborate with the founding team to align content with strategy

What We’re Looking For

  • Above all: commitment, reliability, and ownership. We are prioritising people who will see this project through from start to finish.
  • You should only apply if you are ready to take real, consistent responsibility for our social channels and feel excited about being part of the project for the long haul.
  • We welcome applicants who haven’t formally managed a social media platform before. Experience is valued, but commitment and reliability matter most.

We’re Seeking Someone Who:

  • Can dedicate ~5 hours per week until at least the end of June 2026
  • Is highly reliable, detail-oriented, and self-driven
  • Is comfortable owning the social media strategy end-to-end, from planning to execution—creating posts, engaging with our audience, and steadily growing our presence.
  • Has a creative eye and enthusiasm for content creation
  • Is familiar with effective altruism or eager to learn
  • Enjoys storytelling that inspires a broad, global audience

Important: The Challenge Week (5–12 June 2026) is our biggest moment. You should be prepared to dedicate around 50% more hours during this week to keep up with real-time content and momentum.

Why Join Us?

  • Work alongside experienced professionals who support and uplift each other
  • Help drive meaningful climate impact through effective giving
  • Be part of an encouraging, fun, and hopeful volunteer community
  • Build a strong portfolio piece that can help you transition into a career in Effective Altruism or climate-impact communications
