Hey all!
I wanted to share that our organization, Fish Welfare Initiative, is looking for social science researchers who can respond to our new RFP.
The problem: Currently farmed fishes in India—as well as many other parts of the world—are killed via being left in the air to asphyxiate to death. This likely amounts to torture, and seems to take between a few minutes to several hours for them to finally die in this way.
The solution: We're running a multi-phase project to investigate, and if we find it sufficiently promising to implement, pre-slaughter stunning in India. You can learn more about the details of this project in our latest post.
The first step of this process is our RFP, which will commission research to investigate the following three questions:
- Which stakeholder groups within India’s aquaculture sector are most likely to adopt pre-slaughter stunning technology?
- What economic, logistical, cultural, or market-driven factors could incentivize or hinder the adoption of stunning technology?
- What strategies or adjustments will be required to scale stunning technology across the aquaculture industry?
We’re preferring researchers in India, but we’re open to researchers abroad if they have experience with the country or with stunning.
Please do email me or comment below if you know a researcher or team who might be interested. And as always, feedback and input are most welcome on this project.
Thank you!
