About the talk

This talk tracks the justification for, investments in, and scientific literature on octopus farming, the case made against octopus farming, and the subsequent approaches to stop the mass production of octopuses, including policies that have been introduced to pre-emptively ban farming and/or farmed octopus imports at various levels (primarily U.S. states).

About the speaker

Jennifer Jacquet is interested in patterns across transboundary environmental problems and the attempts to address them. She is a Professor of Environmental Science and Policy at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science at the University of Miami, and affiliated faculty with the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy. From 2012-2022, she was faculty in the Department of Environmental Studies at New York University. She is also author of Is Shame Necessary (Pantheon, 2015) and The Playbook (Pantheon, 2022).
