TL;DR: We've updated the EA Opportunities Board and migrated it over to effectivealtruism.org! 🙌

Check it out here

Overview

The EA Opportunities Board is a website that lists accessible opportunities for building skills or contributing to impactful work. It includes things like internships, volunteer opportunities, part-time roles, training programs, funding opportunities — anything short of a full-time role.

Since the CEA Online Team took over the project at the start of 2025, we've been running it while attempting to minimize its costs. I'm now a bit more confident that it's worth our team making low-hanging-fruit improvements (for example, it did surprisingly well in the 2024 EA Survey given its relatively low resources).

So we're starting by porting over an MVP version to effectivealtruism.org, which gives us a much better foundation to build upon in many ways[1]. We've kept only the essentials:

  1. The Opportunities Board
  2. The bi-weekly newsletter
  3. Ways to submit an opportunity and submit feedback

I think the new board looks really nice, and already it’s the second most visited page on effectivealtruism.org! 😮 Thanks so much to @Agnes Stenlund for the speedy mock ups and @Ollie Etherington for building almost all of it in a single day!

We also made some improvements to the backend systems, including updating the Slack integrations and migrating to a new Airtable base. This allowed us to clean up the data and automations, and start experimenting with using AI to make it cheaper to add new opportunities to the board (so our contractors don’t have to spend as much time on data entry).

Our plans

We plan to spend a small amount of time making additional UX improvements, based on user feedback and chatting with @Conor Barnes 🔶 from the 80k job board (thanks Conor!). For example, we may add additional search filters and an email alert feature.

In addition, I haven’t yet spent much time thinking about adjusting the criteria we use to decide which opportunities to allow on the board and how to weigh different opportunities, and I’d like to do so soon.

If you’d like to provide feedback or suggestions on how we can improve the Opportunities Board, feel free to reply in the comments or fill in this form.

We’d like to promote the Opportunities Board more, especially with a new semester starting soon. So we’ll spend some capacity finding ways to reach a broader audience, including potentially via paid ads. You can help us by telling your friends about it! 🙂

Most importantly IMO is that we're moving off of a terrible no-code platform, so we'll have much more control over the UX.
