How difficult it is for you to double major in both medicine and computer science, given that both majors are time-consuming and require heavy specialization (esp. medicine)?

I think EA is a highly interdisciplinary community, and I doubt with your background you couldn’t find a cause area that combines both (pandemics prevention, AI bio-x-risks). Also, what is the marginal time you expect your medical career will return a certain threshold of financial stability for you to do earnings to give? In the U.S., becoming a doctor usually take 7-15 years and an amount of debts before you actually make $500K. Given these factors, you might also equate both career trajectories and find multiple paths you can pursue at once.

thank you for your sharing :) as somebody who experienced social mobility during the recent years, I feel extremely anxious sometimes thinking about how much of a better place I am in right now compared to my people who suffered the same things as me, my community, and every other lives. But also every other day I realize the better i treat myself, the more capacity i gain to help out more people. it's more effective that I resolve my guilt properly so I can direct more of my resources and energy towards helping others. Please remember, you're a part of the lives you can save as well!

I'm new to applying for an AIS grant, so I have some common questions that might have been answered elsewhere:

(1) what are some failure modes that I might need to consider when writing a proposal, specifically for a research project?

(2) will research expenses include stipends for the researchers?

(3) can I write a grant to do a research project with my university AI safety group? I'm not sure if this will be considered a field-building or a technical AI safety grant.

My first EAG is coming up within the next 10 days. Thank you for many helpful advice that encouraged me to go all out for my first EAG as well. This will for sure be a great test for my upper bound limits!
