Yeah, I agree with (1), and (2) is very interesting, I hadn’t heard that idea before.
Much of the idea behind this post was that the set of actions that ‘build community’ are accessible to most people, and are less defined than we might initially realise.
Also, some of the most effective outreach might therefore be more personal, coming from the average EA or EA-adjacent person, as opposed to solely through targeted initiatives.
In general, the thought is to avoid aiming for personal connections and support by accident, where purposefully changing community norms would be much more effective.
