As part of CEA’s transition to an independent entity (spinning out from EV), we cannot pay out any funding from June 1 to July 31, 2025

We will still be able to review applications and share funding decisions during this time - but no funding will be paid out until August 1, 2025.

If you need to receive Group Support Funding before 1 August 2025, submit your full application (including budget) by 23 May.

We think this will mostly affect university groups with semesters that start during or shortly after this period - for example, (some) universities in Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, India and Mexico.

Intro to CEA’s funding for groups

CEA provides grants to university and local groups because we believe groups are a crucial way to grow and nurture the EA community. Grant funding helps groups thrive by enabling organizers to run more and better quality activities, and ultimately inspire more people to aim to do as much good as they can with their career.

Our Group Support Funding covers basic group expenses, most commonly snacks, books and room booking. Our Community Building Grants (currently only accepting grant renewals) cover operational expenses and staff costs for some national and regional EA group leaders.

Why the pause?

This pause is necessary because:

  • EV needs this pause to smoothly wrap up its grantmaking systems and infrastructure.
  • It gives CEA time to ensure our replacement systems are properly working.

This payout pause affects any funding related to:

  • Group Support Funding
  • Community Building Grants
  • OSP stipends (if applicable)

Note that EA Funds, another EV organisation, will also not be able to disperse any grant funding for grants submitted after 9 May, until the end of the pause on 1 August. Their EA Infrastructure Fund sometimes provides alternative funding for groups. See this post for more.

If you need Group Support Funding before 1 August 2025

Note that this only applies to Group Support Funding. If you are on a Community Building Grant, you will hear about this directly from Naomi and Alex.

  • Submit your full application (including budget) by 23 May - applications after this cannot be paid out until August.
    • In order to receive Group Support Funding you need to pass a Funding Approved Organiser interview, and have your budget approved.
      • If it’s close to the deadline, we encourage you to complete both stages at once.
    • For applications received by 23 May, we will communicate decisions by 31 May 2025.
    • If some of your expenses fall outside of our guidelines, we would encourage you to apply by 20 May and respond quickly to our follow-up emails.
  • Complete your due diligence by 10 June (if you miss this deadline, payment will be delayed until August).
    • Due diligence includes sharing your bank details and answering questions that help us prevent fraud (e.g. whether you have any conflicts of interest)
    • Due Diligence Preparation: See our due diligence questions here - preparing in advance will help you meet the due diligence deadline.

For Applications Submitted During the Pause (i.e. after 23 May 23)

  1. We will continue to evaluate applications and communicate decisions during the pause (June 1 - July 31)
  2. All due diligence and payments for these approved grants will resume processing on August 1, 2025
  3. Preparing your due diligence documentation in advance will help speed up payment when we resume processing
