Thanks Kestrel! You're completely right that $150 is correct (though if anyone could achieve a $15/day retreat, I hear it would probably be you!) Fixed now :) Jemima
When should I recommend 80K advising to student group members?
Leaving this as Huon's replied!
[from earlier answer] If you’re not sure about whether someone’s plans are sufficiently AI-focused (e.g. Global Priorities Research), I’d personally recommend suggesting they apply (with caveats about higher chance of being unsuccessful). The initial application form is really short!
Where else should I be recommending further careers advice?
In addition to AAC and Probably Good, Alicia mentioned Magnify and Center on Long-Term Risk. These are the options we’re aware of right now!
Are there any recommendations for changing recommendations about 80K website content?
I don’t think so - I definitely wouldn’t remove specific articles from the fellowship syllabuses! However, if you were recommending the website generally before, you could consider instead recommending specific pages like problem profiles or career reviews.
Per Jess’ comment here, the current career planning template will remain useful to students regardless of their focus.
I missed this during draft amnesty - thanks for writing JDLC! I'm particularly excited about 'conference + accommodation = retreat'. If you, reader, try it out please let us know how it goes! Jemima
We think both programs are relatively valuable, but are less aligned with our current vision (of providing value through helping EA university group organizers run better groups) than some of our alternatives.
We have made this (difficult!) decision so that we can instead focus on:
Increasing capacity on the team (currently under 3 FTE), including by recruiting a strategy lead for our pilot university work (and building out that work more generally)
This decision does not rule out running UGOR or our internship in the future. In fact, we are exploring whether we should run UGOR over (northern hemisphere) summer break, allowing more groups to better prepare for their academic year. We piloted such a retreat as part of our pilot university programming this summer, and that worked well.
We aim to continue to transparently share updates such as this one! We are also always open to feedback (including anonymously), especially if you have specific suggestions on what things we should deprioritize to create space for UGOR or the summer internship.
Thanks Kestrel!

As a group organiser I was wildly miscalibrated about the acceptance rate for EAGs! I spoke to the EAG team, and here are the actual figures:
If that’s peaked your interest, EAG London 2025 applications close soon - apply here!

The Groups team did a 3 minute brainstorm about this during our weekly meeting! In no particular order:

We just wanted to transparently share that CEA’s University Groups Team is not running two of our historical programs over the next few months:
