The European Commission has decided to establish a new directorate generale responsible for preparing for and responding to cross-border health crises, the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA). Subject to apporval by the European Parliament, HERA will be funded with the substantial amount of 6 billion euros for the period until 2027, which the Commission plans to take from other health programs. You can find more details on these plans on this website, in particular in the proposed regulation and the Commission Decision you will find there. The Commission announced that it will soon publish a work program with more information on HERA's activities.
The plans for this authority date back to early 2021, but since it has not received any attention in this forum other than a casual mention in another post, I thought it deserved a brief note.
