I work at a large technology company in a group focused on delivering tech solutions to non-profits and humanitarian organizations. The mission of the group is to deliver social impact rather than profits (which are reinvested). Overall it seems like a high-leverage opportunity thanks to the organization's very wide reach, focus on infrastructure, and considerable resources it can direct towards the non-profit space in a sustainable way.
After the initial focus on building the organization itself, the leadership has the ambition to better understand and track what our social impact is and to use it to drive us in the future. This seems like a really exciting opportunity to positively influence - better-informed decisions can affect really considerable resources and a better framework for thinking about our social impact can influence the future long-term trajectory of our organization.
I managed to arrange a call about how EA know-how could be relevant, pitching the experience the community has in impact evaluation (both theoretical and practical). I have two questions I would love your help with:
- Do you have a recommendation for people our leadership could consult with? I can imagine two main directions: where to direct our help and in what form we could help best, and how to evaluate these two questions. I believe there is extraordinary expertise in this area in our community from which we could learn. Who could we talk to about it?
- Do you have other suggestions on how to best pitch EA ideas, or go about influencing the decision-making to maximize positive impact in general?
I'm writing this post before getting all the details on what are the current needs in our organizations. But given how much impact talking to our leadership can have, I would like to come prepared and I would really appreciate your help!
Thanks! I'll keep that as an option and I'll see what's the response after the meeting.
