I'm Jen Steele, founder of equitas education — a boutique advisory firm I've been running since 2016, focused on translating evidence into investment action. My goal is making education accessible and impactful for the world's most vulnerable children.
Before starting equitas education, I spent 15 years in international humanitarian response — with Save the Children, the International Rescue Committee, and others. Since founding equitas education, I've advised some of the sector's most consequential actors — UNICEF, USAID, the UK government's FCDO, Save the Children, Sesame Workshop — on everything from national education strategies to global workforce frameworks. I helped shape FCDO's Syria education strategy, which now reaches over 100,000 children annually. I led UNICEF's global educator competency framework, now the benchmark for 25,000 practitioners across 190 countries. And I convened 45+ stakeholders to co-design a new coordination architecture for Syria's fractured education sector, ultimately benefiting nearly 4 million children.
Translate my humanitarian and development sector expertise, advising governments and UN agencies, into the effective altruism space, advising philanthropists.
