I want to note that the “people straight out of undergrad/grad” you talk about all went to Harvard or Oxford. This information seems very relevant to anyone who wants to update on whether they, too, could do this sort of thing as a fresh graduate.

Re: long tasks, I have heard that it’s actually really difficult and expensive to measure long tasks. Maybe they are working on it?
