Regarding deliberate practice, advice I was given for quickly developing skills when you have access to a mentor is to:
identify what skill the mentor has that you want to copy
do the skill
give yourself feedback from their perspective "If I was Bob, what would I say"
Test the advice you gave yourself with the mentor by asking for their feedback on where you are most uncertain
For skills like strategy and writing I believe this works quite well, and explicitly giving yourself feedback from their perspective is where you become better.
