Thanks kbog for this detailed exposition of your views. I found this claim of yours quite remarkable: "as far as I can tell, there has been no serious analysis judging whether the introduction of LAWs would be a good development or not". It sounds as if you're dismissing the entire body of writing by e.g. Stuart Russell as not being serious analysis, and I also don't see it prominently cited or addressed in you piece even though you describe it as a "review".  I think you'd find it quite interesting to have a conversation with him.
