I spent just over 20 years in the corporate world, working across multinationals and a range of industries. My career included roles in project management, governance, risk and compliance, as well as process design and implementation. About 12 years ago after the birth of my son, I stepped away to look for something more meaningful.
I’m deeply passionate about animal welfare and plant-based nutrition, and in 2024 I started my own NPO to fight against the live animal export trade from South Africa (www.stopliveexport.co.za). There’s also a great piece about my journey by SLE Australia if you’d like more background: https://stopliveexports.org/michelle-taberer-co-founder-stop-live-export-south-africa/
Alongside my work on live exports, I’m equally driven to see an end to factory farming and a shift toward more sustainable food systems - better for animals, people, and the planet.
I am looking for grant funding opportunities for animal advocacy movements in Africa, as well as connections with others involved in fighting against the live export trade.
Reach out to me if you need connections within the South African animal protection space. I also offer program management services on a consulting basis.
Great article! Thanks Jacob and Cheslyn
