Hi! I was born to care, therefore physician, pro WFPBD and vegan. As a doctor, the most important guidance for me is "Do not harm." In addition to that, I pursue to do good as much as possible, and that`s why EA lured me in. Quite new in EA, becoming deputy board member 2026 in EAFI.
I`m active member in FALM (Finnish Association of Lifestyle Medicine), Ilmastolääkärit (Finnish Physicians for Climate) which is connected to LSV (Lääkärin Sosiaalinen Vastuu, Physicians for Social Responsibility).
I live in Northern Finland, love life, animals and singing in a good company. I do like do art (ceramics, paintings), but somehow it´s been over a year last time I did any.
That's awesome! Thank you.
My personal story: As a lifelong animal lover, it was obvious that I wouldn't pay for cage eggs, so cage free / organic and free range production came very conveniant. I was so deep in carnism, that even the knowledge about maseration of male chicks didn't stop me.
But when found out that chicks are suffocated with CO2 (like pigs are), that was too much for my conscience to bare - so I switched purchasing eggs from small (< 80 birds altogether) henhouse. They killed roosters with an ax. After a while that didn't feel okay either.
So, against my will I became vegan. Now it seems so silly how stubborn I was. If EA follows logic in reducing suffering, it would encourage veganism, by normalizing it as a default instead of "extremism". Words matter. Change is made by actions. Funding is a real drive for change.
Thank you! Exact my thoughts, too. Just imagine what could be accomplished if EA would address the root causes of carnism and speciesm, as ASAP (Allied Scholars for Animal Protection) led by Dr. Faraz Harsini and supported by Peter Singer does!
Well said.
Thank you for your thorough ground work on the subject. I did not know that fetal bovine serum (FBS) was used for cultivated meats (any brands), since usually public is told that they could take cells wherever, for example obtain them from withered feather of a lively bird. I am sad to be misled.
The procedure how FBS is collected from living calf`s heart is so utterly cruel that I imagine the practice would end if it was shown to public. Unfortunately it is done hidden as usual in animal AG. In which countries that is still legal? What brands use it?
Another thing, I`d love to hear your opinion of the sustainability of Solein by Solar Foods. To my knowledge, that protein can be analogue what ever animal protein, just without hormones etc. harmful substances. As it is high in iron, it might be a sustainable solution to take care of global iron deficiency anemia, too.
