Our latest report, authored by contributors from eight Global South countries, highlights the need to bridge the AI governance divide and create equitable frameworks that leave no community behind. As we demonstrate (with examples in our paper), the inclusion of the Global South benefits all stakeholders involved by strengthening the legitimacy of international agreements, leveraging unique insights and contextualizing safeguards.

We outline recommendations for the Global North and South to work on together across 5 objectives.

🔑 5 Key Objectives:

1️⃣ 🏛 Establishing (Regional) AI Safety Institutes in the Global South to build local capacity and foster proactive risk management.
2️⃣ 🚫 Coordinating a Global Moratorium on Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (LAWS) to prevent destabilization in vulnerable regions.
3️⃣ 🌱 Leveraging AI for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while ensuring ethical deployment to address regional challenges.
4️⃣ 🛡Safeguarding Human Rights and Democracy by addressing regulatory gaps through transparency and impact assessments.
5️⃣ 🌐 Mitigating Language and Cultural Bias in AI Systems to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

🤝The next steps in AI governance must reflect collective priorities, cultivating frameworks that advance progress and technological breakthroughs globally.
