Hello!
We are high-school and university students from Japan who decided to organise a cool EA event for young people in Tokyo.
Philosium Tokyo 2026 is a Japanese youth conference bringing together students and young professionals. This conference is for-students-by-students with a goal of introducing the EA and establishing a network of young people interested in the topic.
Right now EA Japan mostly consists of seasoned professionals, but it lacks young minds. Our idea is to connect those professionals, ideas and opportunities with the next generation, securing the wellbeing of EA movement in the future. A conference might be enough to find future EA leaders and to plant a seed of altruism in those who choose to pursue other life paths.
This conference will feature talks on 3 different topics: EA basics, AI safety, and animal welfare. The conference will be concluded with a panel discussing altruistic career choices and a networking event.
The event is already on 19th September, and one of our primary concerns is the funding. We intend to make a good-quality conference and we believe that it is important to leave a good impression of effective altruism on those students.
If you find that what we do is important, please consider supporting us. We do not need much money, just enough to get a venue, all of the materials, pay speaker travel expenses and get a vegan lunch. In the perfect world we would also like to pay some compensation to our speakers.
