When: June 2026 through May 2027
Benefits:
- 10 weeks of intensive AI journalism fundamentals training
- 1 week journalism summit in the San Francisco Bay Area
- 9 month placements at a newsroom. Placements run from Sep. 2026 through May 2027.
- Stipends from $60,000 to $80,000, depending on location. Stipends for Senior Fellows with five or more years of relevant experience in journalism or AI are $90,000 to $110,000.
Who should apply: Our ideal applicants want to build a career in journalism and are thinking deeply about the implications of transformative artificial intelligence. Experience in AI governance, technical research, and journalism are all a plus, but not required.
Why journalism? Journalists can lead the public debate on AI in important ways, drive engagement with specific policy proposals, and hold major AI labs accountable in the public arena. If you want to read a more in-depth argument for why journalism matters, we highly encourage you to check out our colleague Sawyer Bernath’s recent post on the forum here.
