[Okay, this is a bit of a weird one but it's been on my mind for months so you'll get it :P]

You know that 'ugrh' jolt of slight disgust and repulsion you get when you look down the cistern of a public toilet and see brown stains?

Well you're not the only one. And the thing is, it might only be a fleeting moment, but that repulsion can stay in the system and you go out of the bathroom with slightly more disgust towards the world for a while.

It is very, very low, but it /is/ a little bit of suffering for those who come through and get the jolt of 'ugrh' - and you can change that.

Who knows how many people come through and have that same experience. It only takes a few seconds. I'd say it's a pretty good bargain! Given the few seconds it requires..*

Another part of my argument is about you, and your mindset. Cleaning a public toilet is an act of humility, and of service. Very healthy for your ego!

You will not be thanked for it. People won't even know you avoided the negative experience for them and will not be grateful. But you still prevented a little bit of suffering. Both in the moment and the tone the people go out in the world with.

We are not EA's because we want to be heroes that feel good about what we do and receive glory. We are EA's because other living beings matter.

We have a commitment to serve the beauty of life on this planet.

It's not about us. It's about those we can help.

I offer this as an exercise in embodying and remembering that.

[*Of course, if you are extremely revolted by this, don't do it. It's not worth it if your suffering for doing it is much greater than what you alleviate. But perhaps, it's still a healthy exercise to get over some of that. Up to you]
