Maximizing positive impact through evidence, reason, and measurable outcomes are core tenets of EA. But one thing I've come to realise is, many Programs in global health are run vertically instead of being integrated. How does integration happen? Funding.

Because of the unavailability of funding, leading to the unaffordability of health care (including many of its determinants), many Programs are run based on the interests of the Coordinator.

My team and I, are working on developing a sustainable funding strategy tailored to the needs of developing communities. Our approach recognizes that lasting change requires more than short-term aid; it demands the creation of resilient, self-sustaining systems that empower communities to thrive independently.

The core of our strategy is the design and implementation of a feasibility study and pilot program to identify the most effective funding models for community-led development. This study will evaluate existing local structures, economic potential, and social capital to determine which mechanisms (such as community investment funds, social enterprises, or cooperative microfinance) yield the highest long-term impact relative to cost.

This means that, instead of investing in Deworming medicines separately, malaria treatments, ITNs and other vertical Programs, we support communities to be able to provide these things themselves while, providing funding support. That way, they can function irregardless of donors in the long run.

The pilot phase will test these models in partnership with local organizations, ensuring that community members are co-creators rather than recipients. We will track metrics such as income stability, social cohesion, and reinvestment capacity to assess scalability. We hope to inform a broader strategy that integrates sustainability, transparency, and measurable impact.

Ultimately, our goal is to establish a replicable funding ecosystem that aligns donor intent with local agency, reducing dependency on external aid while increasing effectiveness per dollar spent.

As someone from a donor dependent region, this initiative is not just about financial resilience. It’s about empowering communities to shape their own futures, guided by the principles of effectiveness, accountability, and shared prosperity.
