I am considering switching my career to more data science/machine learning (potentially, AI safety if I happen to be good at it, but there are many other great causes that can benefit from data science). As a start, I want to complete a data science project (to add to my resume and to practice new skills). Is there anything like the Effective Thesis organization (or at least a website or forum or blog) where I can find ideas for the projects that would be impactful? There are many people switching to data science and doing a couple of projects for this purpose, so this should be relevant not only to me.

Hey, I think this is a great idea. Credo AI is an organization working on data science-type projects for AI safety, maybe one of their projects could give you inspiration?
