I think value-based theories of wellbeing do a pretty good job at describing what people think is good for someone, but concepts about values, especially those intended for self-help, could be improved. I attempted to go over what other people think on the topic, but I definitely got some things wrong about what these people think. (I just saw that Greenberg specifically differentiates positive affect from valuing something!)
Here's the link if you use Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
Here's the script, but I'd recommend the audio.
Mentioned in the episode:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy book - The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris
Valerie Tiberius - Paper describing her ideas - Well-Being as Value Fulfillment (book)
Spencer Greenberg - Post describing some ideas - Another post
Clearer Thinking episode about decision making with Annie Duke
I think this post would benefit from a longer summary of the podcast (maybe 3x longer). The current summary isn't detailed enough for me to decide whether I want to listen to it.
