Hi everyone,
I recently inherited some money and would like to donate it. However, it's in a trust fund, and it seems like the people who run the trust fund are pretty anti-donation. Does anyone have any ideas for this situation?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Chelsea. You should probably hire a trusts & estates lawyer to help you understand your rights with respect to the trust better.
Thanks Cullen, I hadn't thought of that but it makes a lot of sense.
Hi Chelsea! It's so great to see your interest in using this money for good. One thought: it might not be that the trustees are anti-donation, but rather that they're bound to the legal terms of the trust. You can request to see the documents that govern the trust; if I were you, I'd request those and then use an AI tool like Claude to help you understand them and get a rough understanding of possible next steps. Depending what you learn and whether it seems like there are creative options for donating, Cullen's suggestion of a trusts & estate lawyer might be a warranted next step. Good luck!
Thank you Maggie! I'm trying to sort through all this now... it's confusing and time-consuming, but if I'm lucky it will end up being very worth it. That's also a good point about creative options for donating. We'll see what comes of this!
My experience suggests that there probably isn't much that you can do.
