I work as a math tutor, and I was wondering if any EAs might need help with math along their journey to become better EAs?
Presently, I can help with algebra through precalc, but I've taken and done well in calculus 1, 2, and 3, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, and Statistics, and I could relearn those in order to teach them.
Would this be a useful service to other EAs? What do you think? Do any of you think, “if only I could do a certain type of math, then I could do a certain EA career?” Does a lack of math skills prevent people from pursuing certain EA options?Â
How could math tutoring fare within the Importance, Tractability, Neglectedness (ITN) framework?
- Learning math could be extremely important depending on what you're using it for.
- As far as tractability goes, learning many math subjects is very tractable for most people, even if it doesn’t feel like it is.
- However, math education is far from neglected.
Does anyone here need help with math currently? Feel free to DM me :)
Hi, I doubt it's very useful but I would be glad to help with math (I'm a math researcher so any math level that you take in class is probably fine).
More on the meta level, I would like to see a coordination mechanism in which people can teach / tutor other people in skills that are useful for impact. Does that exist? Would it be worth it to organize it?
