New Writing:
- Emily Oehlsen, CG’s President, wrote that we're at a critical moment when transformative AI may arrive soon, and described how we're scaling our work on AI and biosecurity in response.
- Kearney Capuano and Melanie Basnak reflected on their first Effective Careers RFP, reporting that a surprising volume and quality of applications led them to fund far more than planned. They’ve awarded about $13 million to 28 organizations helping people transition into high-impact careers.
- Danny De La Torre wrote about the behaviors and habits that make a good Chief of Staff.
- Andrew Snyder-Beattie made the case that we could solve the vast majority of existential biological risk by ubiquitously deploying simple and cheap countermeasures like PPE, air filters, and UVC.
- Matt Clancy reviewed recent research showing that people who live through greater economic growth tend to have more trust in their government, higher support for democracy, and less zero-sum thinking.

Celebrating 10 Years of the Open Wing Alliance
The Open Wing Alliance (OWA), a global coalition founded by The Humane League (THL) to unite animal protection organizations and end battery cages, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, the coalition has expanded into an international network spanning regions from Thailand and Colombia to Poland and Rwanda. Since its inception, the alliance has secured over 3,000 corporate commitments to eliminate battery cages from global supply chains and distributed more than $14 million in grants to animal protection groups worldwide. To commemorate this milestone, THL published yearly highlights detailing the alliance’s growth and decade-long impact.
The 2026 Fair and Fowl Report
THL released the third annual Fair and Fowl Report to evaluate global corporations on their progress toward cage-free egg commitments. Utilizing public tracking data from ChickenWatch, the report ranks multinational companies with existing global commitments across all sectors. Companies demonstrating transparent, positive progress toward fulfilling their pledges receive a "Fair" ranking, whereas companies lagging behind or failing to report progress are designated as "Fowl." The publication serves as an objective benchmark to track corporate transparency and accelerate global cage-free fulfillment.
Major Farm Bill Update
THL and grassroots supporters achieved a significant defensive victory on Capitol Hill as the Senate Agriculture Committee voted to advance the Senate Farm Bill. Crucially, the committee's bill draft completely omitted the "Save Our Bacon" Act, a piece of legislation pushed by industrial pork lobbies to invalidate state-level animal welfare standards like California's Proposition 12. Sustained advocate outreach made the controversial language a liability, leading to its exclusion from the base text. During the committee hearing, Senators Ernst and Grassley attempted an unexpected maneuver to force a vote adding the act back into the bill. While that effort was held off, THL is preparing for continued pressure and potential floor amendments as the Farm Bill moves to the full Senate floor.
