New Incentives has a new, high-impact funding opportunity. We are looking to expand our pilot, which distributes ORS through routine immunization visits in northern Nigeria.

We think there is an opportunity to increase timely access to ORS by providing it through these same touchpoints, leveraging our platform to distribute ORS to infants at a very low cost. Because the delivery platform already exists, the marginal cost of distributing ORS during routine immunization visits is approximately $1 per child. The fixed costs—field officers, clinic relationships, monitoring infrastructure, and data systems—are already covered by the immunization program.

We published a Q&A with Mark Davis of the Centre for Pesticide Suicide Prevention, "How Banning Toxic Pesticides Could Prevent Over 100,000 Deaths Per Year," examining the case for regulatory action on toxic pesticides.

We published a Q&A with Clare Donaldson, the Lead Exposure Elimination Project's Executive Director, "How LEEP is Eliminating Lead Paint, One Country at a Time."

We also published a shallow investigation into antimicrobial resistance, estimating its health burden, explaining barriers to addressing it, and identifying potential funding opportunities.

We continued our annual tradition of writing about what our Global Health & Wellbeing grantees accomplished in 2025.

Our RFP for Humane Fish Slaughter Research/Prototypes is open through July 1, 2026. Funding is available for projects that materially improve the welfare of fish at capture and slaughter.

We also have a variety of other funding opportunities available, including fellowships, scholarships, support for group organizers, and funding for career development and transition.

In Wild Animal Initiative's latest call for proposals, we solicited ideas for projects that explore how variation in environmental conditions interacts with wild animal welfare, how welfare variation correlates with mortality risk, and other priority research topics. We received 401 expressions of interest, one of the highest levels of interest we’ve seen in funding for wild animal welfare research since we began our Grants Program in 2021.

Following intensive internal review, we invited 53 applicants to submit full grant proposals. Our Science Team and external review panel are currently reviewing these to select the finalists. Projects are evaluated according to selection criteria that include cost-effectiveness, potential impact, and neglectedness of the topic. We’re excited to share details about the newly funded projects with you this summer!

Update from the Cooperative AI Foundation: Summer School 2026

The Cooperative AI Summer School 2026 ‘Expression of interest’ applications are now open! Taking place in Canada (location TBA) from 3-7 August. Watch last year’s recap video for a flavour on what to expect.

This is an advanced programme for early-career professionals already working in or studying cooperative AI. Over five intensive days, participants will attend talks by leading researchers and work on collaborative projects tackling real cooperative AI challenges. Financial assistance is available, and we especially encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply.

Fulfilling their commitment to phase out caged-eggs, made at the start of our cage-free campaign in 2016, Lidl Poland (the second-largest retailer) has announced that they are now 100% cage-free, affecting millions of hens annually. 

To hold retailers accountable to their pledge to stop selling caged eggs by 01/01/26, our French team recently published an investigation into supermarkets that still sell caged eggs, which garnered significant national media attention. We estimate that between TV, radio and online coverage the news of the investigation will have reached several million people. The pressure from this prompted multiple responses from the retailers to the media about their cage-free commitments.

Our UK team, formerly known as Open Cages, has rebranded as Anima, reflecting their role as part of Anima International which is active across six countries and focused on the highest-impact interventions for animals. Our UK work remains centred on eliminating fast-growing chicken breeds, which currently account for ~90% of the over one billion chickens raised in the UK annually.

The animal advocacy movement in Central Asia is small but developing. Together with our partners in Kazakhstan, we announced the second annual conference on animal advocacy in Central Asia (CAAAF — Central Asian Animal Advocacy Forum), taking place on 04/04/2026.

Fish Welfare Initiative Updates

We recently published two new datasets:

• Our farm program dataset, comprising of 10K+ (anonymized) data points on fish farms in Andhra Pradesh, India collected from 2021 to 2026.
• Our continuous water quality dataset, comprising of near continuous water quality data taken from farms in Andhra Pradesh, India over 2 months.

Giving Green Biodiversity recommendation

Giving Green, recently released its first nonprofit recommendations focused on biodiversity protection. GFI was selected as one of two Top Nonprofit Organisations where additional funding could have an outsized impact on biodiversity loss.

Animal agriculture is a leading driver of biodiversity loss on land, largely through habitat conversion for livestock and feed crops. Analyses suggest that transitioning toward alternative proteins could reduce the land required for food production by up to 75%, potentially freeing land for ecosystem restoration and rewilding.

Putting alternative proteins on the farming agenda

In January, GFI’s Nutrition Lead Amy Williams spoke at the Oxford Real Farming Conference alongside Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall about the role plant-based meat could play in a healthier and more sustainable food system. The panel helped bring alternative proteins into conversations with farming and environmental stakeholders, including addressing common misconceptions and exploring areas of alignment.

Being part of these wider food system conversations is essential to building the credibility and partnerships we need to succeed in creating a sustainable, secure, and just food system. You can watch Amy in action here or read an overview on our blog.

New economic analysis opens doors with senior policymakers

Since Systemiq launched its GFI-funded economic analysis of alternative proteins in Europe last month, GFI Europe has secured 11 one-to-one meetings with senior UK and EU policymakers to discuss the potential of alternative proteins and how they can be positioned as a policy priority. 

Having credible, EU-wide data on the issues policymakers care about most, including jobs, economic growth and competitiveness, was vital to securing these meetings. By equipping policymakers with the evidence they need to make decisions, GFI is helping ensure alternative proteins are part of key policy discussions that will shape long-term systems change.

Mycelium Olympics
Thanks to GFI’s Research Grants Program, scientists have tested which species of mushrooms are best suited for growing food, by testing growth speed, protein quality, yield and flavour. You can see the results of what we’re calling the ‘Mycelium Olympics’ in our recent LinkedIn post, it’s a fun one!  This early-stage research is essential for understanding which species are most likely to actually mimic the taste and texture of conventional meat, and by funding this work, GFI is helping build that knowledge base for the whole field.

GiveWell Updates

• In our 2025 grantmaking year, GiveWell approved $418 million across 131 grants to 69 organizations—the most grants we’ve made in a year so far.
  
  Through years of deliberate groundwork, we’ve been growing our research capacity and scope in order to direct substantially more funding to the most impactful opportunities we can find. Last year’s grantmaking reflects this growth, and we will be continuing an intensive effort this year to scale our ability to partner with donors to help people in need. 

• GiveWell recently launched two new RFIs to expand our funding in vaccination and iron fortification and supplementation programs. Submissions for both RFIs are due March 27.
  • Vaccination outreach RFI: Seeking targeted outreach or mobile vaccination programs that aim to increase uptake of routine vaccinations for children under 2 in the DRC, Nigeria, or Somalia.
  • Anemia control RFI: Seeking programs that reduce iron deficiency anemia through large-scale iron fortification, supplementation, or biofortification in Africa. 

• GiveWell aims to find and fund programs that will do the most good per dollar, and we regularly evaluate results to decide whether to continue our support. Sometimes, even if a program we fund is doing a lot of good, it may not have the impact per dollar we expected.

Longview is hiring an AI Safety Content Specialist (contractor, remote, $40–75/hr)

We’re looking for someone to write the grant recommendations, memos, and explainers that help us move money to AI safety. You'll basically work to understand what we're funding and why, and write it up for donors. Some donors are just learning about AI risk, but many are extremely high context on AI safety and will notice if you get a technical detail wrong, so it's important to get someone who can write excellent, high-fidelity content. We want someone with strong AI safety knowledge who writes well and fast, including same-day turnarounds. 

It’s an hourly contract, initially for three months, 20+ hrs/week preferred, with potential to extend or convert to full-time. I think it’s a highly directly impactful role and a good learning opportunity for people with good prior knowledge of AI safety. Apply here by EOD Monday March 16.

Evidence Action will wind down chlorine dispenser operations in Malawi and scale back in Uganda over the next 24 months. This piece dives into the decision and next steps for our safe water work.

Evidence Action is hiring for the following positions:

1. Graduate Student Intern, New Program Development will assist in the development of potential new programs. The expected pay range for this internship is $24-$28 per hour.
2. Associate, Nutrition will support our nutrition work in Africa and Asia. This role is remote, within the US. The expected pay range for this full-time role is $60,800 - 68,400 per year.
3. Executive Vice President, Global Programs will provide executive leadership for a dynamic portfolio of large-scale, evidence-based global health and development programs. This role’s location is flexible. US-based pay range: $200,000 - $230,000.
4. We are hiring two Program Leads for The AI Access Initiative, which is being incubated at Evidence Action. These roles will lead the design and execution of high-quality programs that harness frontier AI for large-scale impact in LMICs. This role is remote, within the US. 5. We are hiring two Program Managers for The AI Access Initiative to support the design, research, and execution of high-impact AI programs in LMICs. This role is remote, within the US and may require travel (~10-30%) to partner countries. The pay range is: $75,000 - $95,000.

AMF is hiring a Senior Operations Manager!

The new Senior Operations Manager will lead on several of AMF’s programmes. They will work closely with NMCPs, in-country partners, AMF independent monitors and the AMF Operations and Technology teams to ensure the success of AMF distributions. They will think creatively on how to design distributions in the most effective way possible such as through the increased use of technology.

The role will include involvement in all stages of a distribution campaign (pre-agreement, net procurement, post-agreement, during distribution, and post-distribution) across two main areas:

1. Leading the relationship with National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs)
2. Managing AMF's independent monitoring partners

We are looking for applicants with strong interpersonal and intellectual skills, and at least 4 years of work experience. 

The role is full-time, fully remote in UK/Europe/Africa time zones (with a preference for UK-based), and some travel to Africa will be expected.
